Elon Musk Integrates Bitcoin, Ethereum Charts On Twitter

Unexpectedly, Elon Musk introduced a new feature to Twitter. It should please the wider crypto community but disappoint Dogecoin enthusiasts. Twitter launched live charts on Wednesday night (ET) for Ethereum and Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrencies in terms of market capital.

Twitter users will be able to see charts that show live price data for BTC and Ethereum when they use the search function. They can either enter the full name or just the abbreviation (BTC/ETH) and then click the Search button. The Twitter business account announced the new feature on Wednesday as ‘$Cashtags.

Twitter’s new feature supports BTC and ETH in addition to well-known stocks. It does this by prefixing the ticker symbol (or any other symbol) with a $ symbol. Others cryptocurrencies, besides Ethereum and Bitcoin, are not yet supported. The most notable is that there is no support at present for Elon Musk’s favorite coin, Dogecoin, (DOGE).

Bitcoin and Ether are Included, but No Dogecoin

According to Twitter’s business account, it will implement more financial market data and improve user experience “in the coming weeks.” Elon Musk himself tweeted shortly following the launch of the feature, stating that this was ‘one among many product improvements coming from financial Twitter! Bravo to the Twitter team.

Musk didn’t comment on why Dogecoin wasn’t or would be integrated into the future at press time.

The charts are provided by TradingView, and link to Robinhood’s American trading platform. It is not known if the three companies have a partnership and were involved with the feature launch.

It is possible that Musk, who has struggled with declining advertising revenue on Twitter, may not offer the Robinhood referral service free of charge. It is well-known that crypto Twitter is popular and has a large following. Musk now redirects this audience to the trading platform where they will also find a “Sign up to Buy” button. Financial incentives are an option.

Twitter has also become more crypto-friendly over the past months. It introduced Bitcoin and Ethereum tips, and other NFT features. Rumours circulated recently about a crypto payment feature as well as its own Twitter Currency.

This news comes days after Elon Musk launched an poll in which users voted to have Musk resign as Twitter CEO. Musk said yesterday that he is looking for a successor. He will continue to be CEO until such a person is found.

As of press time, the Dogecoin market continues to experience a very bad week. DOGE has dropped 16% in the past seven days.
